M.R. Litman focuses her practice on estate tax planning, estate and trust taxation and administration, business succession planning, and fiduciary litigation. M.R. enjoys working with clients to accomplish their estate planning goals, including the preparation and administration of wills and trusts. M.R. has extensive experience litigating will contests, will and trust construction cases, family and probate disputes, and cases which involve the misconduct of fiduciaries and the misappropriation of funds. She has handled several complex family disputes involving elective share claims, prenuptial agreements, business succession planning, and the administration of estates in multiple jurisdictions.
M.R. works with disabled and incapacitated persons and their families in the establishment of special needs trusts and advises on guardianship and conservatorship matters.
She also handles general corporate work for closely held businesses and nonprofits, including nonprofit formation. She is a member of the board of Read to Them, a nonprofit organization that promotes family literacy, and she is a member of the Rotary Club of Richmond.
M.R. is admitted to practice in Virginia and West Virginia. She earned her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Richmond School of Law, where she served as the recruitment editor for the Journal of Law and the Public Interest. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, in political science from Vanderbilt University.
