HELEN LEWIS KEMP has been engaged for over 30 years in helping her clients form and implement their estate plans and administer estates and trusts.  Her practice involves all levels of estate, gift and generation-skipping transfer tax planning.  She advises clients regarding charitable giving, individual gift planning and the formation of limited liability entities.  Helen also assists corporate and individual executors and trustees administer estates and trusts. 

Helen began her career at Mays & Valentine, which merged into Troutman Sanders.  She practiced in the firm’s trusts & estates group for 20 years before moving her practice to Virginia Estate & Trust Law in 2007.

Helen is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC), listed in Best Lawyers in America, designated as a member of Virginia Business magazine’s Legal Elite in Taxes, Estates and Trusts and rated as a Virginia Super Lawyer in Estate Planning & Probate Law.  She is a member and past president of the Trust Administrator’s Council of Richmond and a member of the Estate Planning Council of Richmond.  She has chaired the Wills, Trusts and Estates Section of the Virginia Bar Association and currently serves as an advisory member of the Section’s Legislative Committee.

Helen currently serves on the board of trustees of the Richmond Symphony Foundation and the charitable advisory committee of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.  She is a trustee of the St. James’s Endowment Fund and legal counsel to the Memorial Trustees for Roslyn.  Helen has served on the Westminster Canterbury Foundation board of trustees, the donor engagement committee of The Community Foundation, the planned giving committee of the Richmond SPCA and the American Heart Association’s local board of directors.  Helen does pro bono legal work for several local non-profits serving the diverse needs of our community. Helen received her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law and her M.A. in history from the University of Virginia.  She graduated cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, with a B.A. in English and American studies from Hollins University.
